Sadhaka and badhaka tattva
In Hatha yoga, the sadhaka and badhaka tattva lay out specific sets of rules to advance your yoga practice. Basically, they tell you how to be successful (sadhaka) or how to fail (badhaka) in your yoga path.

Badhaka tattva - causes of failure .
Six detrimental factors that create weakness in the Yoga Aspirant and contribute to failure.
1) Atyahara - Over eating
This one just makes sense. Overeating can lead to feeling sluggish mentally and physically. As yoga prepares the mind and body, overeating will literally weigh you down. Hath yoga prescribe Mitahara or moderate diet for yoga students.
2) Prayasa - Over Exertion
Over exerting yourself can lead to physical injury and mental exhaustion. Excessive physical effort can deplete the energy required for sustained and regular practice of correct yoga techniques.
3 Prajalpa - Excessive talking
Do you mindlessly chatter to fill space? If the chatter gets out of control, you never have time for silence and reflection. Excessive talking has always been considered as undesirable and fraught with problems.It contributes to the depletion of mental and physical energy. Hence, a yoga aspirant is advised to speak less.
4) Niyamaagraha - Excessive insistence on following rituals or fanaticism.
Rules exist to organize, protect and direct. Adhering to rules with stubbornness can disturb the mind any destroys any chance of tranquillity. Yoga aspirants should avoid any kind of fanaticism including their approach to yoga practice. Realistic approach is advised.
5) Janasanga -Excessive socializing with wrong people.
It is great to be social, but too much socializing and keeping company of negative minded people can have an adverse effect on mental tranquility.
6)Laulyam - Fickleness of mind
A mind that is always changing is distracting, and often doesn’t lead you to attain desired path with single minded determination. Fickleness hinders consistency.

Six factors that lead to the success of an aspirant
1)Utsah – Enthusiasm
It is necessary to have a state of mind in the form of enthusiasm in order to engage in yoga practice. Being passionate and excited with an enthusiastic mind, all the organs get inspired to work in spiritual practice by communication of life force in the body, mind, and senses. Therefore, an enthusiastic state of mind is the key to success in yoga practice. Also gives you a positive, and often more grateful, perspective.
2)Sahas – Courage
Courage should also be a quality in the path of yoga practice. Courageous Sadhaka or seekers can challenge difficult activities of yoga like gradual stilling of the mind . A fearful seeker cannot proceed toward the path of Yoga Kriyas.
3)Dhairya – Patience
Yoga seekers should have patience. The seeker should patiently solve the obstacles of the world or life.Only a sustained and uninterrupted effort can lead to success in following the yoga way of life.
4Tattva-gyana – knowledge of the philosophy
Before walking on the path of Yoga, it is necessary that the seeker should acquire knowledge through scriptures and Guru’s teachings. Clarity about what is our purpose and how we are acting or behaving and recognizing why we have an interest in studying or practicing yoga is a critical element of understanding and implementing the philosophy of Sadhana.
5)Nischay – determination
A sense of determination is necessary before starting any worldly work. Where there is laxity in determination, there the path will be obstructed. Therefore, before engaging in the path of yoga practice, the feeling of determination is very essential.
6)Jansangha-Parityag- abandonment with inappropriate people.
Too much public contact leads to a loss of physical and mental energy. Avoiding the company of those who might criticise or discourage the practice helps the Aspirants to remain focused in the initial stages of Yoga development.
